Challenges We Faced During the Project
In our ME 182 project, although we started as a team of five, only two members remained until the end. This led to several significant challenges throughout the process:
1. Reduced Team Size:
We were originally five students, but after three members left, only two of us had to handle the entire workload. This greatly increased the pressure and responsibilities on us.
2. Modeling Difficulties – Gramophone Structure:
One of the most challenging tasks was modeling the gramophone. Its base and especially the curved horn section were very complex and required detailed effort. Even our instructor had pointed out that the part inside the gramophone—the notched cylinder—would be extremely difficult to model, and it truly pushed our limits.
3. High Number of Parts:
The gramophone consisted of many different components. Each piece required separate modeling, and often we had to search online and learn new CAD techniques just to complete one part. This consumed a lot of time and energy.
4. Poster and Blog Workload:
With only two people left, working on the project poster and the blog page became a serious challenge. These tasks, which would have been manageable with a full group, became overwhelming for just the two of us.
5. Rebuilding the Blog Page:
After one of our teammates, who had control over the blog account, dropped the course, we had to rebuild the entire blog page from scratch using a new email account. This took additional time and effort that we hadn’t initially planned for.
6. Hand Sketching and Technical Drawings:
Despite everything, we tried our best to complete all the required hand sketches and technical drawings. We spent many hours making sure every detail met the course requirements.
